Why we recommend peels

When performed by an experienced skincare nurse or aesthetician, peels visibly improve skin tone, texture and hydration, adding the finishing touch to injectables, dermaplanes and laser treatments.

Peel formulations are blended to suit your skin concerns on the day. Peel strength and application techniques are tailored to your specific skin physiology and treatment goals.

Angela Frazer, Senior Nurse and Skincare Consultant and Clinical Co-ordinator, likens having a peel to caring for your teeth:

To understand chemical peels, it helps to view your daily skincare as “brushing and flossing” at home, while a peel is the “professional dental scaling” that reaches what your toothbrush cannot.

Can you have a peel in summer?

Yes, but with strict “dental-grade” caution. Just as you wouldn’t eat something freezing cold right after a deep dental cleaning, you shouldn’t expose “new” skin to intense sun. We often recommend superficial or “no-downtime” peels (like Lactic acid) during summer months. Regardless of the peel type, you must commit to daily application of a high-quality broad-spectrum sunscreen to prevent sun damage to the fresh, vulnerable layers.

Is it painful?

Our peels feel more like a “tingle” than a “pain.”

  • Mild Peels: You might feel a prickly or warm sensation, similar to the fizzing of a strong mouthwash.

  • Medium Peels: These can feel like a stinging sensation or a mild sunburn for a few minutes. We may use a fan to keep you comfortable, much like a dentist uses air or water to soothe your gums during a cleaning.

Can I go to the gym afterwards?

It is best to skip the gym for 24 to 48 hours. Sweat is acidic and can irritate the skin while it is in its “healing phase” after a peel. Additionally, increased body heat can intensify redness or cause “hot spots” on the face. Think of it like a dental filling—you want to let the “work” set and settle before putting it under the pressure of a heavy workout.

When will I see results?

  • Immediate: You may notice a “glow” or smoother texture within a few days once the initial redness subsides.

  • Long-term: The best results for acne scars or deep wrinkles appear after a series of 3 to 6 treatments. Your skin cells take about a month to turn over, so the full “brightening” effect usually peaks around the 4-week mark.

Can I combine the peel with another treatment?

Yes, peels are frequently paired with:

  • Dermaplaning: To remove “peach fuzz” so the peel can penetrate deeper.

  • Hydration Masks: To soothe the skin and reduce redness immediately after the acid is neutralized.

  • Microneedling: To maximize collagen production. Sometimes done in alternating appointments, to keep collagen stimulated.

  • Laser Genesis: The peel removes the superficial layer of dead, skin cells so the laser energy can reach the dermis more efficiently.

As our peels are not a one size fits all, you will be consulted as to whether layered treatments, such as those above, should be part of your treatment plan.

How is a peel tailored to me?

Acclimatization

Our team are very experienced in administering peels. They often start with a lower concentration (e.g., 30% lactic or 8% TCA) and gradually increase strength in subsequent sessions as the skin builds tolerance.

Layering Technique

By applying the solution in multiple “passes” or layers, the nurse can precisely control how deep the peel penetrates. They monitor for frosting (a white residue signaling protein coagulation) to decide when to stop.

Contact Time

Some peels are “timed” and require neutralization with a specific solution after a few minutes, while others are “self-neutralizing” and are left on the skin.

Post peel Care Plan

Every patient is asked what their daily routine is like, so we can advise on the best way to care for you skin for the week post treatment.

How much does a peel cost?

Most peels are $165 each.

A course of 4 peels is $495

(the 4th peel is free).

Gentle cleanse, exfoliation and hydration treatments start at $99.

A range of prices and types of peels are available. These are discussed and decided upon when you are in the treatment room, once your skin is examined.
