Neck bands, known as Platsyma bands, are the vertical, rope-like structures that appear more prominent on the neck as we age, caused by the Platysma muscle. They are particularly evident when we are expressive and as the firmness of our skin weakens.
To relax the muscle, Botox® is administered where the bands are prominent, up to where the bands join the jaw. How much is administered depends on the strength of your Platsyma muscle and how prominent it appears.
The result is seen within 2 weeks. The neck is smoother and less able to show the Platsyma muscle. By administering Botox® close to the jawline, the muscle relaxes and often patients notice they look slimmer under the jaw.
